Birdwatching in Suffolk

Suffolk is one of the best areas in the UK for birdwatching all year round, with a wide variety of habitats producing a long list of species.

The coastal marshes are well known for breeding Bittern, Bearded Tit, Marsh Harrier and Avocet.

The RSPB reserve of Minsmere is perhaps the best known of the wetland reserves, but many other sites invite exploration, including the newly created Hen Reedbeds just outside Southwold.

Heaths along the coast (often adjoining the marshes) hold Wood Lark, Nightjar and Dartford Warbler.

Away from the coasts, the countryside often boasts large and extensive hedgerows and provides excellent walks between attractive villages.

See our Suffolk Reserves guide for more information.
